At MSK ImageWorks, we understand the critical importance of precision and attention to detail in medical image processing. With years of continued experience in academia, specializing in musculoskeletal imaging, we know the rigor required to objectively extract meaningful insights from imaging data. We combine technical expertise with an understanding of the nuances that define high-quality research, ensuring that every image is processed to balance accuracy and efficiency. Whether you are investigating subtle changes in tissue structure or validating novel treatments, our commitment to excellence helps you uncover the full potential of your data.
We are proud to offer our services at a price point that makes advanced image processing accessible to all. Using only the most essential staff, we have developed streamlined workflows honed over years of experience, benefiting further from the meticulous use of cutting-edge AI and machine learning tools. This allows us to deliver top-tier results without the high costs typically seen from our competitors. As a result, you save valuable resources for other essential aspects of your research, such as recruitment, staffing, or more precise outcome measurement tools. At MSK ImageWorks, affordability doesn’t come at the expense of quality or speed—it’s built into our mission to support impactful research.
As a colleagues in the field of musculoskeletal research, we are personally invested in advancing MSK health through our clients’ success. Our tailored approach ensures that your unique study design, research objectives, and clinical goals are at the forefront of our service. We don’t just process images; we partner with you to help realize your vision for improving MSK health. We offer consultation services to support end-to-end execution of your research study, industry projects, or clinical workflows. Together, we can push the boundaries of musculoskeletal research and contribute to a healthier future for all.
MSK ImageWorks is led by Dr. Hayden Atkinson, an applied MSK imaging scientist and clinician. Hayden earned his PhD in Rehabilitation Science at Western University, focusing on knee joint tissue adaptations to short- and long-term changes in loading, particularly in articular cartilage composition and effusion-synovitis volume. He concurrently earned his Masters in Physical Therapy as part of the combined MPT/PhD program. Hayden has published over 30 research articles and conference abstracts in musculoskeletal imaging and health, and presented his work nationally and internationally.
Currently, Hayden works as a clinician-scientist between Western University and London Health Sciences Centre, leading projects focused on understanding osteoarthritis at a deep level by combining imaging, biomechanics, metabolism, and patient factors to get closer to developing precision treatment of osteoarthritis. He also collaborates on ACL reconstruction and rehabilitation, hip joint pathology, projects focused on spinal conditions and interventions,
Throughout his career, Hayden has collaborated and consulted locally, nationally, and internationally on many MSK imaging projects as part of his doctoral and clinician-scientist roles. Hayden noticed that when it came to imaging, expertise in study design, protocol optimization, and image processing is far from commonplace. Many researchers who use imaging as an outcome measure aren't fully informed in these critical areas, leading to a lot of time and resources to make up for oversights, or trying to solve the problem themselves. While there are existing third-party services in this domain, they come at a high cost, given their need to pay large teams, and support payroll for medical specialists and administrative staff. This problem of complexity and high costs leaves research and industry clients to make a difficult decision: figure out a way to do things on their own, almost surely overlooking many important aspects in the image acquisition and processing workflow, or, accepting the high cost of third party image processing and consultation services, leading to a compromise of resources and finances in other aspects of the project.
To address this, Hayden leveraged his experience and expertise to make his services available to more than just his inner-circle, and created MSK ImageWorks as a reliable and trusted service to deliver excellent quality and affordability for academic and industry clients working with MSK imaging. We are a small and dedicated team that offers the same quality, precision, and turnaround time as a larger service at a fraction and a sharp attention to detail. We promise to take every measure to maximize the value of your data with careful efficiency. From the conception of the project, to the final reports, we can help you get the most out of your efforts, leaving you with all of the powerful insights of MSK imaging and none of the complexity.
Depending on the complexity, modality, anatomy, and sample size, we use a combination of manual, semi-automated, and automated image processing options to suit your needs and best equip you to tell the story that your dataset holds.
With a background in data science geared for clinical research, we have the expertise to determine the most appropriate analysis, and execute it appropriately, supported by secondary analyses to answer all of the "what-if's".
We use the most appealing and content-specific visualization, illustrating your findings in a way that enhances results.
Knowing how to get the most out of costly imaging appointments can be challenging and overwhelming. We can help you develop custom imaging protocols that suit your needs, outcome measures, budget, and time constraints to ensure not a minute you pay for is wasted, and all of the images contribute to answering your research question.
Beyond just the imaging protocol, planning a study requires understanding of the detectable difference, the timeline required to support this, and the imaging modalities and parameters that are most sensitive to the effect. Our study design consultation ensures that if there is an effect to be found, your study will capture it.
With experience publishing and reviewing for clinical and imaging journals, and grant funding application and review, we know what journals and grant panels are looking for.
We offer writing and editing services for full manuscripts and individual sections of research papers and grant applications, helping to get your research funded and published.
Our experience in designing communication materials for industry organizations has facilitated funding and promotional efforts for these clients. These services includes scientific communication services including executive reports, presentation and visual materials, data management, training protocols, and other client-specific needs.
